With the day turning to dusk, the band head up the mountain to seek the mine entrance. As they walk up the mountain pass they see the sun setting below a divot in the mountain.
Silme and Heironymo perform their duet with two pairs of ghosts dancing around the band, as their music subsides, Yomi can hear drums in the air.
The divot in the mountain starts to light up like the rising sun, if not for the fact that this was the place it set.
Lemmog recognises the drumming as Orc war drums!
Gribble is sent off to investigate, and goes invisible climbing up the mountain path.
The Attack
Just as he almost crests the divot, Gribble realises a few things.
- This is a very dumb Idea
- Those are Orcs appearing over the crest and down the path towards me
- Those are a lot of Orcs
- Bugger this invisibility will not last much longer
- Help
- Run
First to appear are the Skulks with their long bows raining down arrows on the rest of the band
Then come the Youngax Orcs, thinner younger Orcs who start charging down the pathways
Gribble tries to run and hide
The band start laying down area effect spells and start heavily wounding the first to arrive.
Very quickly these are then followed up by:
- a Orc War Chief
- a fever of Younax Orcs
- a crash of Greatax Orcs
- a muster of Ax Orcs
- a murder of Morax Orcs
- a Krudger
- an unkindness of Krushers
- a skulk of Skulks
- a murder of Godspeakers
The Band throws, Confusion, Fireballs, Gasious Clouds, as well as other ranged attacks at the Horde of Orcs.
The Orcs throw circle of deaths, blasts as well as arrows at the band.
And the horde march on, closer towards the band.
Gribble is the first to go down, then Heironymo
Yomi and Ekam heal them back up, only for them to fall again.
Ekam flies up and polymorphs into a sperm whale and flops back down taking out a load of Greatax, but is then surrounded by Morax Orcs and the War Chief.
But as the band kill a bunch of the orcs, more arrive over the horizon, wave after wave.
Silme falls, Yomi dimension Doors Silme and himself away.
Lemmog gets surrounded and goes down in a blaze of glory.
Ekham starts retreating back.
But the Horde keeps pouring down the mountain, sweeping into Pawney killing everything in its wake, including Arcane Fire.
Repeat
The band wake up in cozy beds on the second floor of the Grumpy Groundhog Tavern in the town of Pawney. There is a chill in the air as the entire area is covered by a fresh sheet of snow that fell during the night. The sound of chatter bleeds through the floor and the smell of coffee and cooked meat is heavy in the air. A strange sensation of deja vu sweeps over the band and their stomachs are in tight knots.While enjoying a delicious breakfast platter of eggs and bacon, the band overhear a conversation from a trio of gentlemen the next table over. They are discussing recent orcish raids and expressing their disappointment that Mayor Arryn has yet to send for soldiers to protect the townsfolk. They discuss how the town has no walls and almost no guards, so if those orcs come here it is certain that many will die! One even jokes that perhaps the doomsayer preaching in the town square is onto something!
A waitress is carrying over a fresh cup of coffee to a lone gentleman sitting in the corner of the room.
