Lemmog riding the face of the greater rock worm back down into the hole, smashes his Axe into the worm to get a grip on it, hoping to ride it like the legends of the sand people who rode sandworms.
The Greater Rock Worm smashes Lemmog into the tunnel and digs forward, with wich Lemmog loses his grip on the Axe.
As the Worm crushes past him, it buries him in dirt from its anus as it bores through the dirt and rock, Slowly suffocating.
Gribble casts shatter in the hole, sending a big dust cloud up into the air, and revealing Lemmog for a fraction of a second before the dirt falls and reburies Lemmog.
Ekam arriving back, dumps the bag of holding packed with explosives to Yomi and swan dives into the whole transforming into a badger so that he can help dig out Lemmog.
Gribble creates a large shovel to start digging Lemmog out.
Yomi and Silme are on watch out for other worm attacks, blasting any that pop up even for a look, sending them reeling back down into their holes.
Heironymo spots one of the greater worms pop up and goes down another hole to intercept it, and intercept it he does, promptly getting swallowed by it.
As Lemmog is gettign dug out a stone door in a carved stone doorway is revealed.
The Trials
The First Trial: Cunning
The spirit invites the band into a forty ft. by forty ft. room lined with a few stone pillars.
The door shuts silently behind him once all of the band have entered.
When the door closes, a new set of torches set ablaze and reveal a dozen bodies lying about the room.
The spirit then dissipates and soon after a voice booms through the room.
The Riddles
- If you break me I won’t stop working. If you can touch me, my work is done. What am I?
- I am two-faced but bear only one, I have no legs but travel widely. Men spill much blood over me, kings leave their imprint upon me. I have greatest power when given away, yet lust for me keeps me locked away. What am I?
- We are five entities, similar, but each unique in our own way. The first of us in glass is set; the second of us is trapped inside nets. The third you shall find in both light and in birds, while the fourth of us is the only that can be found within words. The final member of our group, should you seek it, is within us. What are we?
- Lemmog solves Riddle 1 - A Heart
- Yomi solves Riddle 2 - A Coin
- Heironymo solves Riddle 3 - The Vowels of the Common Language
The spirit congratulates them:
“You have proved yourself to be cunning . . . but are you strong? Can you take on the heroes that have failed before you and defeat them?”
The Second Trial: Strength
Some of the bodies on the floor begin to glow with the same ethereal blue as the door keeper. Empty eye sockets become filled with blue fire as these skeletons shamble and rise. “Good luck, heroes,” the voice of the spirit will whisper.
Over a dozen skeletons arise and start attacking the band.
Gribble is as always in the middle of the room, alone, afraid and the bands decoy/bait/scout/dedicated sacrifice - take your pick.
Silme casts wall of force around Gribble encasing him.
This protects him from the attacking skeletons, who just strike at the invisible barrier as Gribble goads them.
Yomi picks out a stick of dynamite and cuts a fuse for it.
Lemmog and Heironymo start cracking skulls.
Ekam the Badger starts biting and clawing at some of the skeletons.
Yomi lights to fuse and throws the dynamite short.
Silme not waiting for the how ever long that fuse will take, fireballs just in front of Gribble, which vaporises the skeletons and detonates the dynamite.
Ekam the Badger takes enough damage to turn back into the himself.
While the remaining skeletons are dispatched quickly.
The spirit then reveals himself again. “Very good. There is indeed strength within you! Now, onto the next test! Remember, only the brave will survive.”
