One of the townsfolk suggests hopping on one of their horses and riding like mad out to the mines, but soon after, the sounds of horses screaming fills the air as the worms erupt for an additional meal.
From the rooftops, the townsfolk can see a dozen horses running off into the distance and away from the giant worms as their stable is broken open.
Ekam sprouts his wings, gives his equipment to the other band members and flys off towards the mines to collect the explosives.
Lost Dog
Shortly after the horses go running off, a dog comes running
out into the street barking loudly. One of the children on the
opposite roof begins to shout, “No, Rascal, git! Mom, they're
gonna eat Rascal!?” The boy, who is no older than seven,
squirms out of his mom’s arms and runs for his dog - leaving
the safety of the rooftops. The woman tries to follow him but
some of the others on the rooftop hold her back as she
shouts, “Thomas, no! Come back! Let go of me!”
Lemmog leaps into action literally, running and leaping off of a roof and superhero landing, popping his knees but stiding on in style to first save the dog and then the child as worms start erupting from the ground.
Gribble thinking he is helping casts a spell that makes the surface of the ground covered in thick growth.
This growth makes movement through it extremely slow and difficult, which means Lemmogs progress is slowed down a lot, where he then has to fight off the attacking worm every slow step.
Silme and Yomi start reining down range attacks on the worm till it shrinks aways back down into its whole.
Gribble starts casting spells that cause noises far away from Lemmog to try and get the worm to turn.
Heironymo helps bring Tommas (the child) and the dog up onto the roof with Lemmog protecting them and finally following.
Setting the Trap
Ekam flys the 1,200 feet across the desert
leading to the base of the mountain and the Adaven Mining
Company base of operations.
Ekam picks the lock to a door fixed to the stone itself. Opening the door to reveal a space carved directly into the side of the
mountain holding over a dozen different types of explosives.
Ekam grabs as much as he can hold himself and in the bag of holding. this includes:
- 10 sticks of dynamite,
- 5 bricks of explosives
- a coiled bundle of long fuses
- a half a dozen timers that can trigger a bomb after a set amount of time up to 5 minutes.
Then starts to make the flight back to Adaven.
Structural Integrity
The creatures continue to shift beneath the town. As they
move, the ground at the surface ripples and shifts in
dangerous ways. Eventually, the weight of certain buildings
becomes too much for the soft ground below to handle and
some of the structures begin to collapse.
The Tavern and one of the houses a few buildings around from it, start to grown loudly before collapsing.
House sends the townsfolk who were on its roof plummeting to the ground and into.
Yomi dimension doors Silme and herself to an ajacent building before they would fall.
Gribble falls prone from the roof.
Val drops through the building into the debris
Rohah is thrown off the roof into the the middle of the street.
The two women stand perfectly still about ten feet from one another as one of the worms slithers below, eating through rock and dirt.
Yomi casts knock on a far door to the try and distract the worms.
Lemmog takes another running leap off of the roof to go and help the townsfolk, Heironymo plays a tune that enables him, the band and the townsfolk to short burst fly.
Silme casts a force wall 10foot up as an invisible platform to help rescue people, Yomi scatters some disguise powders over part of if to see the edges and leaps after Silme onto the force platform.
Silme uses his cape to help Gribble climb up onto the platform, but ends up falling off it himself as Gribble makes it up.
With a few spells here, a few spells there, here a spell there a spell, everywhere a spell spell, sod McDonald the townsfolk made it to the safety of the roof tops.
Worm Spawn Attack!
The worms become a bit more aggressive in their intents. They pop up from the ground and seem to watch the townsfolk up on the rooftops with their eyeless faces.
By now it is reaching noon and the sun is beating down on the survivors.
By now it is reaching noon and the sun is
beating down on the survivors. Water is running low. People
are becoming restless and beginning to fear the worst.
Val, Eldra, and Ronah try keep spirits high despite the danger of the situation!
Just as Ekam is a few hundred feet from the township.
The worms having grown tired of their prey slipping away,
A few minutes after noon, all three worms emerge from the ground at once. They begin vomiting up chunks of stone high into the air once, some of the small boulders reaching heights of 100 feet.
Val will take multiple shots with her crossbow while the creatures are exposed, but the bolts merely glance off of it.
Before any of these rocks hit the ground, they unfurl and sprout large wings with a thin translucent membrane that keeps them aloft. The creatures hover overhead for a moment, snapping their diamond-shaped maws, before descending upon the town!
The townsfolk scramble away from the creatures, using whatever routes they can to get to safety.
Heironymo flys into action attacking one of them, Ekam arriving blasts another to oblivion. Silme, Gribble and Yomi start blasting away at the spawn, Lemmog takes another leap to attack one of the Greater Worms, but face plants beside the worm.
The band starts killing the spawns as the greater worms start slinking under ground, but Lemmog is having none of it and grabs hold of one as it descends beneath the surface.
