A Good Day to Bard Hard - S04E14 - The Festival of Revelry

After fighting off the Vine Apes the band set down to solve the coloured pillar puzzle

The found:
  • The barrier is attuned to harmonic resonance and can be disrupted by matching its frequency.
  • They recall from the Old Scholar Bard that the amphitheater’s performances often began with a melody tied to the four seasons.
  • The Red Pillar had a Warm Falling Tone
  • The Gold Pillar had a Bright Sustained Tone
  • The Green Pillar had a Soft Rising Tone
  • The Blue Pillar had a Deep Resonance Tone
Heironimyo tried attacking one of them with Deep Thunder Damage and got hurt for his troubles
He then tried a different attack style and got further hurt for his troubles
But did then sprawled on the floor notice that they has symbols carved into them
  • The Red Pillar had a tree shedding leaves
  • The Gold Pillar had a Sun
  • The Green Pillar had a Leaf
  • The Blue Pillar had a Snow Flake
After further attacks and Ekham and Heiromyo try to hit them in some order, and are damaged for their troubles.
They twigged.. Seasons
  • Green - Spring
  • Gold - Summer
  • Red - Autumn
  • Blue - Winter
After another round of pain, then they twigged what the 2nd bullet was.
  • They recall from the Old Scholar Bard that the amphitheater’s performances often began with a melody tied to the four seasons.
But Ekham pulled out a duff note for another round of pain before they got their performance mojo in check and broke the barrier around the Conductor Stone Throne, the tones merging into a single harmonious chord. The barrier shatters in a burst of light, and the Resonance Stone’s magic flares.

When the barrier drops, the stone’s magic surges, threatening to collapse the amphitheater. The band now try to escape with the stone while the canyon begins to crumble—dodging falling debris, fleeing beasts, and unstable terrain.

Heironimyo bravely scarpered, quickly leaving everyone behind!

Ekham rallied the rest, for Gribble to create a net and for Lemmog, Hydrica, Bo and Gribble to fly with their brooms/mounts out of there, avoiding the falling debris, when Ekham was sure the band was near safety, he Dimension Doored out of there.

They returned to the Storied Bastion, rested and loaded up the carriage with the Conductor Stone Throne, only then seeing the grapefruit sized ball that slots out of the throne.

The band see a sign just off the road that reads “Drakos Scenic Overlook Ahead!” and they spot a few dozen travelers standing near the edge of a cliff looking out at the area beyond. As they crest the hill, they see the grand city of Drakos for the first time. It is early evening, so all of the lights of the city are on and its center glows vibrantly.

They can see thousands upon thousands of folks making their way through the streets, mere specks from this distance. On the outskirts of town are hundreds upon hundreds of tents with campfires scattered between them. They  can even hear a bit of music on the wind and the sounds of people shouting from the arena near the center of Drakos! It is a breathtaking sight to behold.

Into the City

It takes another hour to reach the city, but as the band arrives they are presented with food carts, game booths, entertainers, and merchants. The lights are vibrant, the music is loud, and heavily intoxicated visitors stumble through the streets. Folks can be found dancing and enjoying themselves no matter where you look!

As they enter the city proper, a young woman in a black and red cabaret outfit runs up to them with a stack of papers. She extends one to each of the band and tells them to make sure they check off all of the items on the list to truly embrace the festival experience! The flier she is handing you reads “Checklist of Revelry” in fine black ink across the top. It contains a list of activities to complete and a checkbox next to each of them.

No sooner than the band had skimmed the list, Ekham has pick pocketed the lady of her tickets.

As the band walk down the streets of the bustling city, they pass folks from all walks of life and see some of the most extravagant outfits you have ever laid eyes upon. Human women wearing elegant gowns as they make their way to a high-stakes casino, elvish men dressed in revealing, leathery outfits that leave little to the imagination, and dwarves in battle garb heading to the arena to participate in a fight. They see tieflings, genasi, gnomes, half-orcs, goliaths, aasimar, and even a few goblins in just a few minute span.

The streets are lined with vendors beckoning the band over to purchase their goods - owlbear claws, dragonbreath salsa, and even a roulette sundae! Musicians, jugglers, dancers, fire eaters, and a multitude of other entertainers have stations set up throughout the city, each performing with a tip jar or box sitting nearby. Bright and colorful game booths are scattered between the buildings with both people playing and crowds cheering them on. The band see contestants smacking one machine with a large mallet, another group of people running around on a giant spinning disc with targets strapped on top of their heads, and even a group of people trying to catch actual balls of flame in a metal bucket!

The city is vibrant and full of life and is simply waiting for the band to explore it.

Ekham start forging with Bo thousands of tickets while Heironimyo tries some of the Dragon breath salsa....

This salsa is made with some of the hottest peppers that can be found in the region!
It is intended as a novelty due to the extreme heat making it almost impossible to eat. Friends will often have competitions to see who can eat the most without stopping to get a drink. Its name comes not only from the extreme heat but the color of the salsa which closely resembles fire. It is sold with mugs of milk and served alongside a platter of chips or thin bread. A salsa and milk combo runs to 8 copper.

Heironimyo tries some of the Dragon breath salsa, but the heat beats him and he has to down his milk while crying tears and snot about the heat and his face is melting and other pathetic stuff.

With mouth and pride hurt Ekham takes him to get some Pop Popcorn

This special variety of popcorn comes with a multitude flavours that can be added on top. Most food carts have powdered cheeses as well as sweet options, but the true delight of the popcorn is from the extra bit of fine ground mineral powder added at the end. This causes the popcorn to crackle and pop in your mouth as you chew it. It feels as if tiny pips of popcorn are leaping around long after you have finished! This treat is particularly popular with children who love running around with their mouths open and listening to the pops! A bag of this specialty popcorn costs 5 copper pieces.

So Ekham treated Heironimyo to a child snack!

The band then had a go at some of the games.
The Floor is Lava, a permanent fixture in a building not a stall, both failed first time falling into what they thought through sight sound and the heat was lava, but was just water.
But had a 2nd go and succeeded, Ekham also stole the stash of tickets from this vendor!

The Mechano - Critter Game, the bet, sabotaged the others but still lost, But they struck a deal with Valta the Old Goblin Woman who for 100 Gold Rigged the game and they won big on both rigged times.

Heironimyo then walked the Tightrope, and Ekham found someone to have a dodgy bet on with, where despite some shady shenanigans from the bookie, Heironimyo made it to the top, and jumped off for bonus tickets, and Ekham made out like a bandit.

The pair then met at one of the Silver Rush Stalls where they both quick fired 60 silver coins and won 450 tickets each.

It was at this point that Ekham realised with forged tickets, stolen tickets, won via stall tickets and won via betting tickets they had over 100K tickets

So immediately traded them for the Mystery Box prize and gained an Immovable Rod.

The pair moved on quickly before any fraud could be detected.

Ashfall Square

The cobblestones of Ashfall Square were slick with last night’s rain, reflecting the flicker of guttering lanterns. The air was thick with the scent of smoke, ale, and something sharper—rebellion. The band hear it before they see it: a pounding, chaotic rhythm echoing from the heart of the square, like war drums played by someone who doesn’t care if the world burns.

A crowd of young townsfolk has gathered, their faces painted in streaks of ash and bright pigment. They chant in unison, their voices raw, their eyes alight with a strange, feverish energy. At the centre, atop a toppled merchant’s cart, stands a wiry bard with wild hair and a battered lute. He thrashes at the strings, producing a sound that’s more fury than melody.
The music is infectious—literally.
The band feel it in their bones, a compulsion to join in, to lose themselves in the chaos.
