Manual of Tuning the Arcane Resonance Network

The Arcane Resonance Network is a network of ancient crystal obelisks, known as Resonance Spires, scattered across the kingdom.

Each spire is attuned to a central Grand Conductor’s Stone located at the concert venue. When activated, the spires project shimmering illusions of the performance and broadcast the music magically to every town square, tavern, and even mountaintop.

Each Spire needs to be tuned to the Grand Conductor Stone, then by means of Illussion and Sound Transmission Magic where the Major Image spell is amplified through the Grand Conductor’s Stone, sending a synchronized visual feed to each spire, while the Thaumaturgy and Sending spells that are woven into the network, ensure  crystal-clear sound without delay.

Pyrotechnic bursts, illusory fireworks, and dancing lights can be triggered from the stage to appear at every spire simultaneously.

Audience cheers at each spire are magically fed back to the main venue, so the band hears the kingdom roaring in unison.

Each Resonance Spire is like a giant magical tuning fork. To activate it, the Harmonic Vessel must be used to match the Spire’s “song” — a combination of tones, rhythms, and magical vibrations.

The Spire’s song consists of three elements the players must match:

  • Pitch (Low, Mid, High)
  • Rhythm (Slow, Steady, Fast)
  • Tone Colour (Bright, Warm, Hollow)

Tuning the Kingdom

The network requires five Resonance Spires to be reactivated. Each spire has its own unique challenge:

2.      The Sunspire –Buried in a desert temple, guarded by a sphinx.

4.      The Deepspire –Sunken beneath the water, requiring underwater exploration and negotiation with merfolk.

 The Grand Conductor’s Stone

Wondrous Item, Legendary, requires attunement by a Bard, Wizard, or Artificer

A massive, multifaceted crystal the size of a throne, suspended in midair by invisible forces. Its surface refracts light into shifting rainbows, and faint, overlapping melodies echo from within. The Stone’s tones are never the same twice — it is said to be “playing” the song of the world itself.

Lore: Forged in the First Age by the Choir of Nine Planes, the Grand Conductor’s Stone was designed to keep the magical frequencies of the world in harmony. It once powered the entire Resonance Spire Network, stabilizing planar boundaries, controlling weather, and maintaining the balance of magic. When the Stone fell silent centuries ago, the Spires drifted out of tune, and the world began to fracture.

Resonance Infusion: While attuned, you can spend 1 hour in contact with the Stone to charge a Harmonic Vessel with its resonance. This charge lasts 7 days and is required to tune a Resonance Spire.

Song of the Spheres (1/week): You may release the Stone’s full harmonic power. Choose one of the following effects:

·         Worldsong Renewal: All crops and natural life within 100 miles flourish, curing blight and disease.

·         Planar Alignment: For 24 hours, planar travel to and from the Material Plane is stabilized, preventing unwanted incursions or allowing safe passage.

·         Celestial Chorus: All allies within 1 mile gain advantage on all saving throws and +2 to AC for 1 hour.

Harmonic Shield: While attuned, you gain resistance to thunder and psychic damage, and you cannot be deafened.

Resonance Vision: You can hear and see magical frequencies as colors and tones. This grants advantage on Arcana checks related to magic and allows you to detect the location of any Resonance Spire within 50 miles.

Harmonic Vessel of the Grand Conductor

Wondrous Item, Very Rare (requires attunement by a Bard, Wizard, or Artificer) – single attunement if with the Grand Conductors Stone

This crystalline orb, about the size of a grapefruit, hums faintly with shifting tones. Its surface is etched with concentric wave patterns that seem to ripple when sound touches it. Forged in the echoing halls beneath the Grand Conductor’s Stone, the Harmonic Vessel can capture and store the Stone’s unique resonance, allowing its wielder to later “tune” the mighty Resonance Spires scattered across the realm.

Resonance Capture: While within 30 feet of the Grand Conductor’s Stone, you can use an action to channel its resonance into the Vessel. This process takes 1 minute of uninterrupted focus. Once captured, the Vessel stores the resonance for up to 7 days before it fades.

Spire Tuning: While within 60 feet of a Resonance Spire, you can use an action to release the stored resonance. This causes the Spire to shift its magical frequency, producing effects determined by the DM — such as altering weather patterns, opening planar gates, or empowering allied spellcasters in the region.

Harmonic Pulse (1/day): Even without a Spire nearby, you can release a burst of stored resonance as an action. All creatures of your choice within 30 feet must succeed on a DC 16 Constitution saving throw or be stunned until the end of your next turn, as the overwhelming sound disrupts their senses.

Attunement Quirk: While attuned, you occasionally hear faint orchestral music in moments of silence. Sometimes, it seems to be “tuning” itself in anticipation of something.
